[drmchsr0 - 12 Days of Anime] Twitter is AWESOME – Why Twitter Is The Best Thing To Happen To Anime Blogging
on December 15th, 2011 at 12:00 pm
I am unsure as to why, but I believe that Twitter is basically the best thing to happen to anime blogging. Of course, speaking as someone who has basically vanished from the “scene”, I’m probably the worst authority to speak on it.
I’m well aware that it’s still better to put your thoughts into 500-1000 words, preferably with a few relevant pictures of cute girls doing cute things (or otherwise, considering your tastes), and that episodic blogging is still a thing. Bloggers are still long winded, editorial-minded gasbags and we love our wordy opinions more than anything else. And at least one or two of us love churning out terrible things for shock values.
Oddly enough, Twitter isn’t a form of social media or a microblog. With only 140 words, it’s more like a very limiting messaging system to an audience of one. It doesn’t feel… social. It feels like a mobile feature writ large, to be honest.
Yet, this app writ large has done a lot of things that only full-fledged sites like Facebook can do: become a social phenomenon. People are using Twitter to sell goods, foment revolutions, better humanity, pass information…
No, seriously, if you don’t know who minami is by now…
In short, Twitter has made us, in a small way, to understand one another as human beings.
As for me? I’m sing it to keep up with the “scene”, talking to people and bugging even more people. Yeah, I’m using it as a messaging system, but hey, it’s just an app writ large.
I truly believe that Twitter can enhance a blog and make the blogging experience much richer. It’s still true that blogging can be seen as writing for an audience of one, but then again, so is Twitter.
Take that, Facebook, Twitter has done something you could only claim to do: share the many faces of humanity with one another. WITHOUT TRYING TO SELL MY PERSONAL DATA TO RUSSIAN HACKERS.
Drm note: Granted that one could also say the same thing for Facebook, but Facebook doesn’t really feel… social. I mean, there’s no freakin’ way I can talk to different people by just butting in in Facebook.)
PS: Yeah, you can do this in Facebook too, BUT TWITTER MAKES IT MORE FUN. HERE IS AN EXAMPLE:
otou-san’s shame: NOW FOREVER IMMORTALIZED IN BLOG FORM (or at least until SOPA kicks in, lol)
Tomorrow: I make an excuse for not writing that post early. Also, something about Steins;Gate hurrr.
PPS: minami’s chibi-miku-san is now… SERIALIZED. AS A TANKOBOON! YAYFICATIONS!
