Meta-Field Game Mechanics in function.

It’s here! It’s here! It’s here!  And it really needs a patch.

So to kick off the first day of Comiket coverage at the Orange Farm, we have to look at the big focus on Umineko this comiket.  The release of Ougon Musou Kyoku has been made available along with the 8th game (which we’ll look at later this weekend) and everyone’s taking a stab at figuring out the more indepth game mechanics so far.

Of what I can understand so far (I have yet to play), the mana bar is generated by your partner (the playstyle is tag team) while they’re out.  The Meta Field system (641236C) unlocks special “meta-abilities” for each character, which your opponent can deny with their own Meta Field (for example, this is health regeneration for Battler).  You and your partner both share a health bar.  The system has certain “touch functions” which allow you to tag out to your partner during certain status of conditions (such as damage or assault).  It’s got some pretty unique functions, and has a King of Fighter’s flow to it – but the lack of certain common features like charge moves makes the neutral seem a little lack luster.  The netplay could be better.

Something neat I noted was EVA Beatrice has an airdash and Battler can recover hp for those of you trying to play melty blood.

Hopefully, unlike Crucis Fatal/Fake, we see a netplay patch relatively soon including the completion of all game features and characters.  Until then, Kanon da gawd…
