What does Obama’s win mean for Otakus?

ALL HAIL BRITANNIA!
ALL HAIL OBAMA!
I thought I’d give a quick thought about Obama since the election is pretty much the reason I haven’t updated for Clannad 05 yet (even though I expected a certain someone to have a gundam update). While I’m not huge Obama fan, I’m glad he won. I expect to live in this country 2-3 more years, so this one is pretty important for me. I don’t really by into hype that easily, I mean education and health care were appealing – but Obama’s economic structure works out like this: It’s going to get worse before it gets better. Which sucks, but hey, you need to do what you need to do to fix the economy. Hopefully he makes a good foreign impression so I can not be hated when I visit other countries, since I am in origin, as unfortunate as it may be, an American.
But what really got me about Obama was his technology act. He seems interested in preserving the internet and believes the constitution had in mind guaranteeing privacy when it was made. While this is contradicting to his support of the patriot act (which he supported around the time of 9/11), it’s alot more promising than McCain, who’s an oldman who ultimately doesn’t care. He would probably see the issue as trivial at best. Remind you of someone?
I cast my vote for Obama because I spend 90% of my time on a computer, and Obama is interested in keeping the net moving, or just caring what happens with the net at all. McCain, a tried and true republican, would probably favor corporate control of the internet if asked about it, since he probably knows next to nothing about it. Is it a sketchy reason to vote? Yeah, but I’m 90% sure that’s the way it would happen. Essentially, I don’t want to pay double what I’m paying now to access google because a company like Comcast said that’s what it cost, and ultimately I don’t want art slightly more mature than this being illegal.
When you vote it’s a matter of interest, so in 2-party corrupt America, I’m glad America showed a slightly more interested hand in the matters of cute, love, and imouto. Or atleast the hand that supresses it less.
Also all that education and healthcare is good too for the student who has loans and has to pay 300$ for antibiotics.

Three years looking back, I don’t see much improvement with the US under Obama’s care. Come to think of it, it seems things are getting worser by the day. He has not lived up to anything he has promised during the election. He promised to bring the troops back home but how many wars have the troops fought for? He promised to cut the government’s spending but ended up in 8 million jobs lost, 2.2 trillion state expenditures and 250,000 dead people getting salaries.
Three years looking back, students have health care until age 26, cancer victims can get full support from medicare, and Osama bin Laden is dead. Not every president is perfect, and the expenditures that he’s drawn up have promoted a higher standard of living and are far lower than previous presidents (especially George Bush). Admit-tingly, he ran as a visionary and operate his office like a functionary, but he is by no means a bad president. Our global image is a lot better, and he handled the Libya situation through International institutions which is resulting in relatively expeditious end and at a low cost to American resources.
He’s also brought an exceedingly large amount of troops home, far beyond what is being recommended by his generals. A president can’t do everything, but he’s done a damned good job so far. A lot of issues you have with your government come from congress and not from who the president is.
When I wrote this post I was focusing exclusively on civil issues, and with the elections coming up it might bait people to go beyond it. Needless to say, I have much more educated opinions (years of a degree in International Relations) than when I wrote this post, so I’ll lock comments on it for now (as it is years old).
